According to officials, the fire that began on Friday, 16 Mordad, near the city of Tírig in the Castiaon area in eastern Spain, has so far burned at least 684 hectares within an area of 19 kilometers. On Sunday, 18 Mordad, firefighters and Spain’s military emergency unit forces worked to contain the blaze, and 700 residents of the city of Cati were evacuated as a precaution, mainly due to smoke. Officials said there have been no reports of casualties so far. The Valencia regional authorities hope that weather conditions and high humidity will help progress the firefighting operations. Firefighters in Spain are also dealing with other wildfires in the Sierra de Segovia mountain range in the center of the country and in the province of Olva in the south.
