🔻According to a report by the British media TalkSport, Aleksander Čeferin, the president of UEFA, is trying to boycott the 2029 Club World Cup with the help of Nasser Al-Khelaifi, one of his key allies and president of the European Club Association (ECA). This move indicates that tensions between UEFA and Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, have entered a new phase.

🔹The decision comes after Infantino’s position was weakened following the failure of the project to hand over part of the commercial rights of the World Cup. Čeferin intends to take advantage of this opportunity to increase pressure on FIFA. His in-person meeting and discussion with Al-Khelaifi on this matter is expected to be held on 22 Mordad, on the sidelines of the European Super Cup match between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa.

🔹However, carrying out this plan faces major challenges. For the European Club Association to officially support this boycott, the approval of all 850 member clubs of the association would be necessary.

🔹Meanwhile, FIFA, under Infantino’s leadership, is not only seeking to determine the host for the 2029 competitions, but also intends to increase the number of participating teams to 48 and to launch the Women’s Club World Cup.

🔹News sources have also claimed that if Gianni Infantino were to be dismissed or if he were to possibly resign, Čeferin would not have a plan to run for the FIFA presidential elections; rather, if Nasser Al-Khelaifi were to run, he would fully support him to sit in the FIFA presidency chair.
