According to a report by ILNA news agency, the minimum monthly take-home pay for workers with all benefits does not even reach 25 million tomans, while independent calculations estimate the monthly cost of a working family at around 90 million tomans and the poverty line at above 70 million tomans.
Point-to-point inflation in Mordad (August) was recorded at 89%, and for the food category it was 127.5%.
Alireza Khormi, a labor activist, told this news agency: “Today, the issue for workers is not only the low level of wages; the wages actually received are also not enough to cover even a minimal life.”
He added: “When the poverty line is above 70 million tomans, but a worker’s salary is below 20 million tomans, then we really have to ask how a worker with such a meager income can manage this expensive life?”
