🔻Abu Zar Shiroodi, head of Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization, has said that flights by Iranian and Iraqi airlines will resume simultaneously from tomorrow (Sunday, 12 Mehr).

He said: “Based on decisions made at the highest level of officials in the two countries, it was decided that flights between Iran and Iraq will resume from tomorrow by Iranian and Iraqi airlines.”

Yesterday, the Prime Minister’s Office of Iraq announced that Iranian airlines, with the exception of Aseman Airlines, are allowed to carry out 40 daily round-trip flights to the Imam Khomeini International Airport. Flights by Iranian companies to Iraq had previously been suspended due to pressure and U.S. sanctions.

In recent days, Iraq had suspended flights of Iranian air carriers to several airports, including Najaf, Baghdad, Erbil, and Sulaymaniyah. The United States then issued a temporary waiver of sanctions to allow the limited resumption of flights between Iran and Najaf.

Baghdad had also said it had measures in place to inspect passengers and prevent the transfer of weapons, sanctioned individuals, or illegal money.
