🔸 Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, said in a conversation with the IRIB News Agency at the end of his trip to New York that there has been no change in the positions of the Islamic Republic.
🔸 Araghchi said on Tuesday, October 7: «From several hours ago, claims have been raised that, with full certainty, I must say that no change has taken place in Iran’s positions.»
🔸 He did not refer to the details of these «claims», but it appears that Araghchi is referring to a report by the website Axios stating that the United States proposed lifting sanctions and releasing Iran’s frozen assets if Tehran backs away from its nuclear program.
🔸 Donald Trump on Monday night, October 6, called the report «fake» and emphasized that he had not made any proposals to Iran.
🔸 In his interview, Abbas Araghchi also added: «At present, the only issue is the Strait of Hormuz, and opening it is also conditional on the fulfillment of conditions that we have communicated to the other side.»
🔸 The Iranian foreign minister went on to say that there are conditions from the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic that «these conditions must be carried out for the Strait of Hormuz to be opened.»
🔸 Mojtaba Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, in a statement released by his office, said that Iran insists on preserving the Strait of Hormuz.
