A U.S. federal court has convicted Hadi Matar, the man who attacked Salman Rushdie, the British-American writer, in 2022, of supporting a foreign terrorist group and carrying out orders from the Iranian government.

With the court’s new ruling, he may remain in prison for the rest of his life. The jury in Buffalo issued the sentence after about two hours of deliberation.

Earlier, in state court, Hadi Matar had been convicted of attempted murder and sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Salman Rushdie was severely injured in the attack in Mordad 1401 (August 2022) and lost the sight in his right eye.
