🔶A Turkish-German aid worker in Iran was sentenced to 10 years in prison

Sercan Eren, the founder of the STELP Stuttgart relief organization, has been sentenced in Iran to 10 years in prison.

According to this relief organization, Eren’s conviction was handed down on the charge of “connection with a hostile country.”

The 42-year-old activist traveled to Iran on 3 Tir 1404 with the intention of distributing donated aid from Germany and leaving Iran on the same date. Since then, contact between Eren’s family and him has been cut off.

Before his trip, in an interview with the local network of Germany’s First Television Channel (SWR), Eren said: “To prevent any misunderstandings and accusations, I don’t have any security or communication tools such as a satellite phone, a bulletproof vest, or a helmet, and I will enter Iran with only a simple backpack.”

The STELP relief organization called the court ruling against Eren “shocking” and wrote in a statement: “This verdict, and especially the level of punishment set, is not proportional to the conditions and realities of the case.”
