🔻A large gathering of jellyfish shut down France’s biggest nuclear power plant again. A similar incident had happened last year.

The gathering could have led to blocking the plant’s cooling pumps, so they inevitably shut it down temporarily.

The large, rotating strainers at the plant prevent sea creatures from entering the North Sea’s cooling systems, but if their numbers are high, they can block these filters and disrupt the plant’s cooling.

The Gravelines plant is the largest nuclear power station in Western Europe.

EDF, the plant operator, said the incident had no impact on safety or the environment.

Experts say that the warming of seawater due to climate change and overfishing has created suitable conditions for an increase in the jellyfish population.
