A group of illegal immigrants marched in the empty streets of Ceuta, the Spanish city in North Africa, on Sunday evening, 11 Mordad, chanting “Allahu Akbar” and carrying a man who, according to them, had been beaten by the police. Following this gathering, Spanish National Police officers moved toward the crowd with batons, and clashes occurred.

These tensions followed the migration wave on Thursday, 9 Mordad; that day, small groups from the shores around الفنیدق in northern Morocco entered the water to reach Ceuta, some swimming and some using swim rings or life jackets. Initial estimates indicate the arrival of around 60,000 people, and at least 86 people died, most of them drowning while swimming on the crossing route.
