🔺87% of the oil tankers active in the Islamic Republic’s oil trade are under sanctions

▪An analysis of maritime data company, Windward, said in a report on maritime insurance that out of about 430 active oil tankers in the Islamic Republic’s oil trade, 87% are sanctioned and 62% have fake flags.

▪According to this report, the U.S. Treasury Department sanctioned 63 vessels in the second quarter of this year, all of which were related to the Islamic Republic. In the same quarter, oversight bodies around the world sanctioned 486 vessels, which is added to the previous 851 cases.

▪The Islamic Republic uses a network of aging oil tankers to circumvent sanctions; they turn off their tracking systems and move the cargo via ship-to-ship transfers.
