Apple has started beta testing iOS 18.1, marking the first rollout of Apple Intelligence features across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The update introduces a set of AI-powered tools designed to help users write, create images, and interact more naturally with Siri.
Among the headline additions are writing tools that can rewrite, proofread, and summarize text across supported apps. Apple is also previewing Image Playground, a new feature that generates images from prompts, along with Genmoji, which lets users create custom emoji-like characters. Siri is receiving a major upgrade as well, with improved understanding of spoken requests and more context-aware responses.
Apple said the new capabilities are built with privacy in mind, relying heavily on on-device processing to keep user data protected. The company is also adding notification summaries to help users quickly review important alerts without opening each one individually.
The iOS 18.1 beta is currently available to developers, with a public beta expected next month. Apple has not announced a final release date, but the features are expected to arrive in a broader software update later this year.
