US strikes Iranian tankers in Gulf of Oman

US forces have destroyed five Iranian oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman, escalating tensions with Tehran after Iran allegedly targeted an American warship.

The US military said crews were ordered to abandon the vessels before they were struck.

After the strikes, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) said that it fired ballistic missiles at a base in Jordan used by the US military and attacked 10 ships.
