The Donyaye Eghtesad newspaper reported that the third gasoline price in Iran is likely to increase from 5,000 to about 10,000 toman.

Based on this report, the government has not yet officially announced this decision, but Mohammad Shariatizadeh, a member of the Parliament’s Energy Commission, said there is a possibility it will be implemented in the near future.

The third gasoline rate was first introduced in Azar 1404 with the aim of reducing consumption and gradually removing fuel ration cards at stations.

Donyaye Eghtesad wrote that this plan is the more expensive version of the policy from eight months ago, and the main question is whether high gasoline consumption stems from low prices or from fuel-inefficient vehicles, weaknesses in public transportation, fuel smuggling, and the inefficiency of the distribution system.
