G20 finance ministers emphasized the need to ensure the free, safe, and predictable passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

In a final statement of the G20 meeting in Asheville, North Carolina, it said that continued disruption to energy trade is a cause for concern, and that maintaining safe shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and other waterways of the world is essential for the continuation of economic growth.

According to reports, all the members present at the G20, except China, agreed to this statement. Beijing opposed the section related to the Strait of Hormuz and three other sections of the statement.
