🔻Four years have passed since the government-backed killing of Mahsa Jina Amini, a 22-year-old girl, while in the custody of the “Guidance Patrol” of the Islamic Republic; a crime that lit the fuse of a nationwide uprising and the resplendent “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement.

🔹During this unprecedented uprising, Iran’s sports community not only took to the streets alongside the people, but also paid heavy costs.

🔹With frankness and courage, athletes played a prominent role in standing with the nation’s demand for justice; a role that was met with severe government crackdown and led to the execution of four of them.

🔹Four young people—athlete, coach, and sports champion—who gave their lives for freedom: Majidreza Rahnavard, a wrestler; Mohammad Mehdi Karami, a karate champion; Kian (Mohammad) Hosseini, a martial arts coach; and Saleh Mirhashemi, a karate champion and coach.
