🔸 Female prisoners in Evin prison barred from in-person visits

According to HRANA, a news agency affiliated with a set of human rights activists in Iran, following recent tensions in the women’s ward of Evin Prison, female political prisoners in this prison were deprived of in-person visits with their families.

It has been reported that, starting from Sunday, 28 Tir, their visits were carried out only through a glass/intercom (booth) setup, while ordinary prisoners continued to have the opportunity for in-person visits with their families.

HRANA also, quoting informed individuals and families of some political prisoners in the women’s ward of Evin Prison, added: “The restrictions imposed on in-person visits for political prisoners have been applied collectively, without declaring a disciplinary decision or issuing any formal notice as punishment to individuals.”

Last week, at least 40 female prisoners were transferred from Qarchak Prison in Varamin to the women’s ward of Evin Prison. The transfer took place while the women’s ward of Evin had already been facing a lack of space and overcrowding.

The transfer was accompanied by protests from some political prisoners regarding the increase in overcrowding and the conditions of detention, and it ended with the presence of the prison guards and the creation of a tense atmosphere in the ward.
