ABC News, citing an intelligence bulletin from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, reported that the Islamic Republic likely intends to target industrial control systems used by U.S. energy companies to monitor storage tanks with cyberattacks.
According to the bulletin, such attacks could lead to physical damage or leaks of fuel and chemical materials.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security also said that Iranian cyber actors in early August used DeepSeek artificial intelligence to research the capacity of storage tanks in the United States.
The bulletin said this activity is “likely part of research to target the industrial control systems of an American energy company active in oil wells.”
