Yasmin Ansari, the Democratic representative from Arizona in the U.S. House of Representatives, on the fourth anniversary of the killing of Mahsa Jina Amini, honored her and said that the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement that emerged with her death continues the fight for freedom and human rights in Iran.

Ansari also referred to the killing of thousands of protesters in this year’s protests, political prisoners, and executions, and said that the people of Iran are caught between a “repressive government” and a “destructive and unlawful war.”

She added that efforts to secure a better future for the people of Iran—one, according to her, that is free of “authoritarian rule and war”—should not be abandoned.

Ansari is the representative for Arizona’s third district and the first Iranian-born Democrat in the U.S. Congress.
