Xi Jinping, the President of China, arrived in Egypt on Tuesday; his first trip to this country in the past decade, which comes as regional countries are reviewing their security and economic relations in the wake of the Iran war.

Reuters wrote that Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the President of Egypt, welcomed Xi at Cairo airport. In recent years, the two countries have expanded their economic and military ties and last month held the second second joint annual military drill.

The visit follows Xi’s attendance at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Kyrgyzstan. His brief meeting with Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of the Islamic Republic, on the sidelines of the summit has raised questions about relations between Beijing and Tehran.

At the same time, Hossein Marashi, Secretary-General of the Executives of Construction Party, said that China has asked the Islamic Republic to open the Strait of Hormuz without charging tolls and to resolve its problems with Saudi Arabia and the United States.

Scott Bessent, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, also said that Washington and Beijing share the view on preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and on freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
