🔻US sanctions against Iran; China’s Ministry of Commerce asked Washington to immediately “correct” its “wrongdoing”

🔻China’s Ministry of Commerce on Thursday condemned US sanctions against Chinese companies and individuals “under the pretext of matters related to Iran.”

Speaking at a press briefing, the ministry’s spokesperson, with strong condemnation and firm opposition to the measure, called on the United States to immediately lift these sanctions.

Scott Bessent, the US Treasury Secretary, recently asked other countries to “distance themselves” from Iran and cut off their dealings with Iran.

However, the request was met with a sharp backlash from some countries, including China and Russia.

The China Ministry of Commerce spokesperson said today that unilateral US sanctions improperly interfere with normal economic and commercial exchanges between countries and severely disrupt global energy security and the stability of its supply.

He added that China is calling on the United States to immediately correct its wrong actions and revoke the sanctions imposed on the relevant Chinese companies and individuals.

He said that China will firmly defend the legitimate rights and interests of its companies and citizens.

Earlier, Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, also said on Thursday in response to the US request: “We have our partners and friends, and we will preserve all these friendly relations based on partnership, and develop them even more.”

He said that the United States is not in a position to put relations with another country “under its monopoly.”
