The British institute “Pearson,” which holds the English-language test PTE and the AMC test (Australia’s Medical Council), said in a statement that, due to new U.S. sanctions against Iran, it will cancel tests for applicants residing in Iran.

On September 7, organizers of other language-skills tests—including Duolingo and TOEFL—had also announced that these tests would no longer be held in Iran.

In a notice about the cancellation of the PTE test, Pearson wrote: “Following the suspension of the ‘General License G’ by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) in the U.S. Department of the Treasury, from 12:00 a.m. on September 8, 2026, U.S. Eastern time, until further notice, we will not be able to plan or administer tests for applicants residing in Iran, unless they can provide documentation proving their primary residence abroad.”

The notice added: “The tests that have currently been scheduled for applicants covered by this restriction will be canceled… We apologize for the inconvenience caused to them.”
