Groussy: The agency has been completely unaware of Iran’s nuclear program for more than a year

🔸Rafael Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, says the organization has had no information about the status of the nuclear program of the Islamic Republic for more than a year.

🔸On Monday, 16 Shahrivar, at a press conference ahead of the start of the work of the Board of Governors of this institution, he said the Agency is completely uninformed about Iran’s nuclear program and that, at least since June 2025, it has been unable to obtain sufficient information about it.

🔸The Board of Governors is expected, at its new meeting that begins today, to decide on a resolution by three European countries that have called for sending Iran’s file to the UN Security Council.

🔸On Friday, news agencies, citing diplomats, reported that the United States and its allies, including Britain, France and Germany, are trying to persuade other member countries of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency to adopt a resolution at this week’s Board meeting in order to refer Iran’s file to the UN Security Council.

🔸The Iranian Foreign Ministry has warned these three countries and, describing their efforts in this regard as “ill-considered,” added that “the Islamic Republic of Iran will certainly take the necessary measures in response.”

🔸In his press conference today, Grossi said: “As stated in the report... the Agency has received neither information from Iran about the status of that country’s nuclear material or declared facilities, nor has it had access to any of these facilities so that it could carry out its on-site verification activities. Therefore, the Agency has been unable to carry out its safeguards monitoring responsibilities under the NPT safeguards agreement in the declared nuclear facilities of Iran.”

🔸He added: “As a result, we have been unable to verify their status and the nuclear material associated with them under safeguards and, as a result, I also cannot provide a report on Iran’s implementation of the relevant provisions of the UN Security Council resolutions, or the resolutions of the Board of Governors in November of last year and this past June.”

🔸Iran has more than 400 kilograms of uranium enriched to high levels, but the nuclear facilities in Isfahan, Fordow and Natanz were severely damaged in Israel and the United States’ attacks during last year’s 12-day war, and Tehran has still not provided clarification about the fate of its stockpiles of enriched uranium.

🔸Grossi had warned in Bahman 1404 that the impasse over the review of highly enriched uranium stockpiles and inspections of Iran’s bombed nuclear facilities cannot “continue forever.”

🔸During this time, the international community has repeatedly asked Iran to clarify its 400 kilograms of 60-percent enriched uranium stockpile.
