Donald Trump says Iran has contacted the U.S. directly and wants a deal

🔸The U.S. president says Iran has contacted his administration directly and is “very” keen to reach a deal with the United States, and expressed hope that the war is close to ending.

🔸At the same time, the Axios website reported that Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with leaders of Gulf countries next week on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly and to discuss Iran.

🔸In the early hours of Thursday, September 26 (Iran time), after arriving in North Carolina, Donald Trump, in response to reporters about the current phase of the war, said: “I hope we are getting close to the end of the war.”

🔸He added about Iran: “They want to make a deal, and we’ll see how it goes.” Trump, in response to the question of whether he received information directly from Iran or through intermediaries, said the contact was “direct,” but did not provide further details.

🔸As of this point, officials of the Islamic Republic have not shown any reaction. Two days ago, Mohsen Rezai, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said that there would be no negotiations with the United States unless Iran’s conditions are met.

🔸A few hours later, at an election rally in Gastonia in North Carolina, Trump again predicted that the war with Iran would soon come to an end, saying that this confrontation would have a “very good” ending.

🔸He added that this ending would likely be after the U.S. midterm elections, though it might happen even before that.

🔸The U.S. president also, repeating his position that Iran should not obtain nuclear weapons, described the increase in gasoline prices in the United States as a “very small price” compared to what his administration has done in Iran, and said that prices would drop sharply after the end of the conflict.

🔸In the same speech, he also said the war in Russia and Ukraine is the reason for the increase in diesel prices. Energy prices in recent months have become one of the important political issues in the United States ahead of the midterm elections in November.

🔸Before that, JD Vance, the vice president of the United States, while confirming Trump’s prediction about the change in the war situation after the midterm elections, said that the conflict with Iran would, within “one or two months,” enter a “very different” phase. Vance did not explain whether this phase would include a reduction in military involvement, an escalation of operations, or a move toward a political agreement.
