The U.S. Secretary of State announced a visa restriction policy that, according to him, applies to those South African citizens who have been involved in “state-backed discrimination” against Afrikaners and other minority groups.
Marco Rubio said in a statement on Tuesday evening that the restrictions target those responsible for “enacting discriminatory laws based on race, threatening to confiscate land without compensation, and inciting racial violence through degrading slogans and songs.”
The statement did not specify whether any South African official has been punished, and did not name anyone.
Rubio added: “Once again, we strongly urge the South African government to promptly address these egregious actions.”
