The U.S. has sanctioned 27 Iranian airlines for allegedly using the aviation sector to transport weapons, personnel, and illegal cargo that are subject to sanctions. At the same time, a Sepehran flight from Mashhad to Kermanshah returned to Mashhad after a technical problem occurred in the engine; this flight had also been canceled twice before due to a technical fault.
