🔶 U.S. President: Should we change the name of the Strait of Hormuz to the Strait of Trump?
Donald Trump, president of the United States, has once again raised the issue of changing the name of the Strait of Hormuz to the Strait of Trump, and claimed that this strategic waterway is now “under U.S. control.”
Trump wrote on his Truth Social social media network on Wednesday, 11 Shahrivar (September 2): “Now that the Strait of Hormuz is under U.S. control, should we change its name to the Strait of Trump?”
He added that, in that case, this waterway would be “hotter than ever, like the United States itself.”
In recent weeks, Trump threatened to place the Strait of Hormuz, between Iran and Oman, under U.S. supervision. He also published a map on which this waterway was shown as “the new U.S. territory.”
This is not the first time Trump has floated the idea of changing the name of a geographic area. Last week, amid a dispute with Canada over trade, he ordered that the name of Lake Ontario be changed to “Lake America.” Before that, he had changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico in the U.S. to “America’s Gulf.”
