The U.S. Embassy in Yemen said on Wednesday, September 25, that Washington has reiterated its support for the internationally recognized government of Yemen and stood alongside it against attacks by the Houthis supported by the Islamic Republic.
According to a statement by the U.S. Embassy, Jonathan Hoep, the country’s chargé d’affaires, in a conversation with Afrah Al-Zuba, Yemen’s foreign minister, confirmed discussions about ongoing developments and Washington’s support for the government based in Aden.
The U.S. Embassy said: “The United States stands alongside the Government of Yemen and the people of this country in the face of the aggression of the Houthis supported by the Islamic Republic.”
The position comes at a time when the United States has increased its intelligence and targeting support for operations against the Houthis. Washington had previously also announced its support for the government of Yemen against the threat posed by Houthis supported by the Islamic Republic in the UN Security Council.
