🔶 "Satellite discovery of an oil spill in the Sea of Oman" as a result of Iran’s war

According to satellite findings, Iran’s war appears to have caused extensive environmental damage in the region. During the United States’ attacks on Iranian oil tankers, it is likely that large quantities of their cargo or fuel were offloaded in the Sea of Oman.

As reported by Germany’s news network "n-tv" (ntv), satellite and aerial images show widespread oil pollution. These images in the waters of the Sea of Oman, off the coasts of Iran, display oil slicks over kilometers that are dispersed across the sea by wind and waves.

The affected areas in the Sea of Oman are located near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz.

Some of this pollution is likely the result of the sinking of the oil tanker "M/T Riesco". The U.S. Army attacked this cargo ship, which was sailing under the flag of Zimbabwe, in the Sea of Oman on Tuesday, 8 September (17 Shahrivar), along with four other oil tankers.

Following the attack, the Riesco tanker, about 240 meters long and 42 meters wide, caught fire and then sank.

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed attacks on non-military cargo ships and calls them a retaliatory measure in response to Iran’s attacks on its own vessels. Iran says it has recently tried to target an American aircraft carrier and a destroyer with ballistic missiles.
