Global News Canada reported that companies owned by Mohammadreza Ghafoori-Fard, known as “Sal Ghafoori,” the son of Hassan Ghafoori-Fard, the former deputy of Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, received more than two million dollars in contracts from federal and provincial institutions in Canada; while he is facing security investigations into potential cooperation with the Islamic Republic’s military programs.

Based on documents examined by Global News, two companies of Ghafoori-Fard in the province of Alberta received contracts from institutions including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the country’s Ministry of Defense. The two contracts with Canadian military institutions were worth a total of more than 1.5 million dollars.

Global News cited a report by Canada’s Canadian Security Intelligence Service, which states that, according to it, before immigrating to Canada in 2013, Ghafoori-Fard was involved in research and development of military technologies in Iran. The report links him to participation in the development of a guided anti-aircraft missile system, jamming equipment, and a network for procuring parts needed for the Islamic Republic’s military projects.
