The funeral prayer for Ali Khamenei, the former leader of the Islamic Republic, was held on Saturday morning, 14 Tir, at Tehran’s prayer hall, in the absence of a number of prominent political and religious figures of the Islamic Republic. At the ceremony, Mohammad Khatami, Hassan Rouhani, and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the three former presidents of the Islamic Republic, were absent. In addition, Mir-Hossein Mousavi, the prime minister during the war era who has been under house arrest for years, did not attend the ceremony. The absence of Ahmad Jannati, secretary of the Guardian Council, and Mohammad-Ali Mohedi Kermani, chairman of the Assembly of Experts for Leadership, was also noted by the media. Mohammad Javad Zarif, the former foreign minister of the Islamic Republic, was also not seen among those present.
