🔶 Venezuela announces withdrawal from the International Criminal Court

Venezuela is withdrawing from the International Criminal Court. Félix Plasencia, Venezuela’s foreign minister, wrote on X that Delcy Rodríguez, the head of the country’s transitional government, informed UN Secretary-General António Guterres of this decision and described it as “irreversible.”

The Venezuelan government says the International Criminal Court, based in The Hague, operates in a discriminatory manner against the Global South countries.

In remarks, Rodríguez said the court has “become highly political” and is being used to attack Venezuela and the people of this country.

The announcement of Venezuela’s withdrawal is being made while the International Criminal Court is examining allegations of crimes against humanity during the rule of Nicolás Maduro, the ousted president of the country.
