🔶 Tehran condemns Britain’s move to label the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as terrorist
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in an official statement, strongly condemned the British government’s action of placing the name of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in the list of terrorist organizations under this country’s National Security law, calling it "irresponsible."
Iran’s foreign ministry said on Tuesday, 23 Tir (June 14) that London’s move to describe the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a "security threat" is contrary to the principles of international law, including the principle of sovereign equality of states and non-interference in the internal affairs of countries.
The statement emphasized that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is an "inseparable part" of the official armed forces of the Islamic Republic and, alongside the army, is responsible for defending Iran’s territorial integrity and national security. Tehran also referred to the role of these forces in "countering extremist groups such as ISIS in the region."
In its statement, Iran’s foreign ministry described labeling a formal military institution as an act that is "contemptible and provocative," and added that this decision, in the current critical conditions of West Asia—according to Tehran, the result of "the actions of the United States and Israel"—shows "malice" on the part of its designers.
In another part of the statement, referring to Britain’s historical background of presence in the region and its alignment with the recent military attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran, it said that London has "no moral standing" to accuse others. Tehran claimed that Britain itself is a "host and supporter" of terrorist networks and groups.
At the end of the statement, the ministry said that, based on the UN Charter and international law, Iran reserves its right to take "reciprocal measures" in response to this British decision.
