Reports from Iraq indicate that the oil tanker, which was sailing under the Panamanian flag and carrying two million barrels of Iraq’s heavy crude, was targeted today, 18 Shahrivar (September 9), in the country’s territorial waters with a drone.
Reuters, citing officials at an Iraqi port, reported that the country’s rescue and firefighting boats have brought the fire on the tanker “New Andros” under control.
No further details about the attack have been released, and so far there has been no report of casualties.
Earlier, a British maritime body that monitors shipping reported that several vessels in the Persian Gulf area caught fire.
The report is published after Iran said it attacked 20 ships that were attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
