🔶 Political earthquake in Germany; 44.5% of state votes for AfD

With the end of voting in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt, poll results at the ballot box show that the far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD) has managed to secure 44.5% of the votes, while the center-right Christian Democratic Party (CDU) ranks second with 18.5%.

Ulrich Siegmund, the leader of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, after the publication of results from polling at the ballot box, congratulated the party’s initial victory and added: “We made history; we need to say that clearly.”

Siegmund also said that this result is also a “signal” for the federal government of Germany led by Friedrich Merz, a politician from the Christian Democratic Party (CDU).

He also discussed the possibility of forming a coalition with one of the other parties, most of which had rejected any cooperation with the far-right party before the election, saying: “Our party is ready for cooperation, but based on its own conditions and positions.”
