Pilot of FlyDubai aircraft hailed a 'hero' by Trump, Modi

The pilot of the FlyDubai aircraft who was attacked on Wednesday (Sept 20) by his colleague mid-air has been hailed a hero by world leaders including Donald Trump, Benjamin Netanyahu and Nahendra Modi.

Captain Smit Machchhar, who hails from India, was allegedly stabbed by his co-pilot who tried to seize control of a Dubai-to-Tel Aviv flight, plummeting the plane 5,000 meters in two minutes. Despite his wounds, Machchhar managed to open the door to the cockpit, allowing passengers to storm through.

Machchhar has since been hospitalised in a stable condition, while the co-pilot, who was also hospitalised, is being questioned by authorities in Saudi Arabia, where the plane was diverted to.
