NBC wrote in an analysis that the continuation of the war with the Islamic Republic and the absence of any sign of diplomatic progress have made Donald Trump, the U.S. president, and the early promises he made about preventing the confrontation from turning into an “endless war” more difficult to fulfill.
The outlet, referring to the latest remarks by Chris Wright, the U.S. energy secretary, about the possibility that Washington and Tehran will not reach a nuclear deal, wrote that what Trump had previously called a “small detour” now looks even more like a “quagmire.”
Wright had previously said that if the Islamic Republic tries to rebuild its nuclear capabilities, the United States may again target those capabilities. The U.S. energy minister added that Washington is reducing Tehran’s ability to develop and ultimately employ nuclear weapons.
NBC also attributed the rise in global oil prices and the average price of diesel fuel in the United States reaching a record of $5.85 per gallon to the consequences of the war with the Iranian government and Ukraine’s attacks on Russian refineries.
