The heads of the governments of Lebanon, France and Jordan will hold a meeting in Paris on Thursday to seek support for the Lebanese army, which is facing financial and operational problems.

The Lebanese army is caught between the Israeli military and the terrorist group Hezbollah.

Joseph Aoun’s office, the President of Lebanon, said in a statement that the focus of the Paris meeting on Thursday will be “providing the groundwork for holding a conference to help the Lebanese army: the situation in southern Lebanon and plans related to the presence of international forces in this region after the end of the UN peacekeeping mission known as UNIFIL toward the end of this year will also be among the topics of this meeting.”

Meanwhile, Hezbollah has rejected the agreement between the governments of Lebanon and Israel from June to disarm the group supported by the Islamic Republic.

The Lebanese government says it needs a larger and more equipped army in order to deploy forces across the country and to win the trust of Hezbollah’s backers, who question the army’s ability to protect them.
