Israel Katz, Israel’s defense minister, said that taking control of the strategic heights of Alitahar in southern Lebanon is a key step to solidify the presence of the Israel Defense Forces in this region.

Katz said the decision to control these heights was made after a network of Hezbollah command tunnels was discovered, and that the Israeli army will not withdraw from southern Lebanon until Hezbollah is fully disarmed and the threat to residents of northern Israel is removed.
