🔻Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence says three people were killed and nine arrested in Sistan and Balochestan

The Ministry of Intelligence of the Islamic Republic says it has identified and dismantled three “operational cells” in Sistan and Balochestan that, according to this ministry, intended to carry out attacks in the south of the province.

In a statement, the Ministry of Intelligence said that during clashes with security forces, three people were killed and nine others were arrested.

The ministry described the arrested individuals as members of “terrorist and takfiri” groups and said that after undergoing military training, bomb-making, and assassinations outside the country, they were in the process of covertly entering Iran.

The Ministry of Intelligence also said that quantities of weapons and ammunition were found among the detainees, and that in a separate operation, a weapons cache of light and semi-heavy arms was also discovered in Sistan and Balochestan.

In this statement, the names of the group or groups that these individuals are attributed to were not announced, and independent details about these claims are not available.

Officials of the Islamic Republic describe some of the armed opposition groups in Sistan and Balochestan as “terrorist” or “takfiri.” These groups present themselves as opposed to the Iranian government, and some of them have taken responsibility for attacks against the Islamic Republic’s security and military forces.
