The International Energy Agency says global coal consumption is expected to set a new historic record this year, due to disruptions by the Islamic Republic in the flow of oil and gas from Arab countries in the region to global markets.

According to this report, shortages in gas and oil will cause the consumption of polluting coal fuel in the world to rise by 1.2% compared to last year, reaching 8.94 billion tons.

The report says that if Qatar’s liquefied gas exports are gradually resumed next year, global coal consumption will follow a downward trend; otherwise, another record should still be expected.

Before the Islamic Republic’s disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, 20% of the world’s oil and oil products and an equivalent amount of liquefied gas consumed by the world were passing through this waterway.
