Foreign ministers of East African countries are meeting in Djibouti to discuss a number of regional issues, including developments in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb strait.

Bankole Adeoye, the Peace and Security Commissioner of the African Union from Nigeria, and Guang Cong, the UN special envoy for the Horn of Africa, will also take part in the meeting.

The representatives are expected to examine the security, humanitarian and economic consequences of developments in the two vital global waterways, especially for member countries that border the Red Sea.

The Houthis took control of Yemen’s Red Sea coast and the Bab el-Mandeb strait last week.
