🔶 Baghai: Iran has made no request for negotiations with the United States
Ismail Baghai, a spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic, said on Saturday, 20 Tir (11 July), in an interview with Iran’s state television that Tehran has not submitted any request for talks with the United States, but has accepted a request from one of the regional mediators to travel to Iran and discuss the latest developments.
He added that the meeting took place in Mashhad and Iran’s positions were conveyed to the Qatari side.
Baghai also accused the United States of “repeatedly violating” a recent memorandum of understanding and said Washington has violated several of its provisions, including those related to “oil sales, new sanctions, and developments from Wednesday and Thursday.”
Contrary to Iran, the United States says the Islamic Republic has violated the three-week-old memorandum of understanding through attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, and that has raised serious doubts about Tehran’s readiness to implement future agreements, including the nuclear agreement.
