🔸The European Union is expected to present a new legal proposal on Thursday, 26 Shahrivar to protect children from the harms of social media networks; a plan that may ban access to these networks for people under 13 or 15 years old.

🔸According to Agence France-Presse, Ursula von der Leyen, the head of the European Commission, will announce the proposed age restriction in the European Parliament the day before the plan is presented. Titled the “EU Kids Law,” the proposal will also require companies to design their products in a way that they are not addictive and to remove features that encourage their excessive use.

🔸At the same time, the French government on Monday submitted a revised version of the ban on the use of social media by people under 15 to the European Commission for review. The French Constitutional Council had revoked the previous version of this law in mid-August due to restricting freedom of expression in an unnecessary way.

🔸Concerns about the impact of social media on the mental and physical health of children in different countries have been increasing. Australia was the first country to ban the use of these networks by people under 16.
