🔺 Rubio: We discussed Xi Jinping’s visit to the United States with Wang Yi

◾ U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, after meeting with Wang Yi, China’s foreign minister, on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit, said that much of the discussion was about the planned visit of Xi Jinping, President of China, to the United States.

◾ According to Rubio, the two sides have differences, but their job is to manage those differences and find areas for cooperation. Donald Trump said the leaders’ summit could be held in late September, although China has not yet confirmed Xi’s trip.

◾ The meeting followed a process that began with Trump and Xi’s temporary trade ceasefire in October and continued with a meeting between the two leaders in Beijing in May; a process that has kept relations between the two largest economies of the world relatively stable.
