The judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in a controversial ruling, sentenced two imprisoned political teachers—who had previously been beaten in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad—to pay diyah to the perpetrators of the same attack.

Javad Lal Mohammadian and Mohammad Hossein Sepahri, in the 6/1 ward of this prison in the previous January (Dey), were, according to informed sources, attacked by individuals hired by the prison’s security and on the orders of Mashhad’s Intelligence Department agents, and they sustained injuries to different parts of their bodies.

After the incident, these two prisoners filed a complaint at the Kaimab Judicial Complex in Mashhad, but instead of trying the attackers, the court convicted the complainants in the case. The issued verdict has been announced as final and not subject to appeal.
