Mehdi Chamran, head of Tehran City Council, said that currently no organization is responsible for managing Tehran’s outskirts and added: “Tehran’s outskirts belong to a bunch of charlatans, and everyone does whatever they want there.”
Chamran, in an interview with the Dideban Iran website, said that the situation of the capital’s outskirts is in disarray and that the municipality moves to identify and deal with violations, but that it faces obstacles on the grounds that the outskirts have nothing to do with the municipality.
He also said that two weeks ago the Supreme Council of Architecture and Urbanism held a session to review disputes related to the outskirts, but that he did not attend and instead notified in writing that this dispute has nothing to do with the City Council.
