A former intern at one of NATO’s bases in Belgium was detained on suspicion of espionage. Belgium’s prosecutors announced on Saturday that the individual is a Canadian woman of Chinese descent who had been interning at the Supreme Headquarters of the Allied Powers in Europe, known as “SHAPE,” in the city of Mons.

Based on the prosecutors’ statement, she is suspected of spying for “a third country” and of belonging to a criminal organization.

The prosecutors added that further details about the individual, including her name, will not be released for now. The country she is suspected of spying for has also not been announced.
