🔶 Germany’s Effort to Enter the Saffron Farming Market in the Wake of Climate Change

With the continued warming of the Earth, the state of Brandenburg in eastern Germany is studying and trialing the cultivation of saffron; a product that Iran has traditionally been the world’s hub for, and which, now, due to climate change, has drawn its growing geography to Europe.

The state’s agriculture minister has said that the sandy soils of the “Lausitz” region have high potential for growing this valuable spice.

According to German officials, although saffron cultivation in this country is currently limited, climate change could turn its production in the coming years into a serious opportunity for agriculture in Germany.

At present, experimental cultivation of this crop has also been launched in several other parts of Germany, including the states of Saxony and Thuringia.

In this regard, yesterday the second “German Saffron Symposium” was held with the aim of networking and exchanging experience among farmers in the country, so as to make the path for expanding production of this product smoother.
