Donald Trump, the president of the United States, said it was likely the Islamic Republic was responsible for the air attack on Saudi Arabia that led to the shutdown of the East-West pipeline.

He said on Saturday in Dublin, in response to a question from reporters about Iran’s role, “I think they’re responsible; probably themselves.”

Trump added that he had spoken with Mohammad bin Salman, the Saudi crown prince, and called him “a good friend.”

The U.S. president also said the Iran-aligned Houthis had contacted his government and said they do not want the United States to get directly involved in the conflict.

He said: “They would much rather we not be involved and they let more ships pass. There is only one country they’re not happy with, and we’ll handle it.”
