🔶 Detained Haluk Levent, Turkish rock singer, amid investigations into his charity organization
The state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Sunday, July 12 (21 Tir), that Haluk Levent, a well-known Turkish rock singer, was detained during investigations into his aid organization named Ahbap.
According to the report, Levent was accused of “membership in a criminal organization” as well as “violating anti-money laundering laws.” He was detained in Bursa, in northwestern Turkey, and taken to the police department for questioning.
Haluk Levent considers himself part of the Anatolian rock style—an approach that combines Turkish folk music and Western rock.
He is known throughout Turkey not only for his musical activities, but also for his humanitarian efforts.
After the devastating earthquake in 2023 in southeastern Turkey and Syria, Ahbap—whose name means “friend”—was one of the first organizations to step in to help those affected.
The singer from Adana in southeastern Turkey continues to hold free concerts regularly in the earthquake-affected areas.
